Real-Time Stereo Vision Techniques

چکیده
This PhD aims at the design and implementation of real-time hardware-based stereo vision systems. Stereo vision deals with images acquired by a stereo camera setup, where the disparity between the stereo images allows depth estimation within a scene. In the first part of my research a new hardwareefficient real time disparity map computation module was developed which involved a fully parallel-pipelined design, for the overall module, realized on a single FPGA device. The design technique was extended to include the hardware implementation of a fuzzy inference system (FIS), to deal more efficiently with the detection of conjugate pairs in stereo images, which is a challenging research problem known as the correspondence problem, i.e. to find for each point in the left image, the corresponding point in the right one. The performance of the hardware implemented design methodologies was evaluated against the state of the art methods to prove their efficiency.

Active Stereo-matching for One-shot Dense Reconstruction
Stereo-vision in computer vision represents an important field for 3D reconstruction. Real time dense reconstruction, however, is only achieved for high textured surfaces in passive stereo-matching. In this work an active stereo-matching approach is proposed. A projected pattern is used to artificially increase the texture of the measuring object, thus enabling dense reconstruction for one-shot...
متن کاملHeterogeneous Computing for Real-Time Stereo Matching
Stereo matching is used in many computer vision applications such as 3D reconstruction, robot navigation, robotic surgery, 3-D video surveillance, and tracking object in 3D space. Real time stereo matching is difficult due to the heavy computation required for matching algorithms. In this paper a CPU/GPU heterogeneous computing platform is used to accelerate the processing and run the system in...
متن کاملComputer vision framework for adding CG Simulations
Rendering synthetic simulations into real world scenes is an important application of both Computer Graphics (CG) and Computer Vision (CV). CV techniques have been used to reconstruct the 3D models of the real world scenes. As part of my course project, I’ve implemented computer vision modules for calibrating camera, computing stereo, computing depth-maps, computing 3D models and a graphics int...
متن کاملSome techniques of real-time disparity estimation
One of the crucial problems in machine vision is reconstruction of 3D shape of objects from their images and the most complicated aspect of this problem is disparity estimation. Some techniques of disparity calculation in real-time monocular and binocular environment are presented. The developed algorithms are based on the correlation method of calculating corresponding points on images in ster...
متن کاملActive Animate Stereo Vision
This paper describes recent research concerning the Active Stereo Probe (ASP) stereo vision system that combines animate oculo-motor reflexes with a novel active illumination source. Two methods for accurate surface recovery from stereo at rates approaching real time are described. Results using texture projection combined with a fast sub-pixel matching algorithm are presented. The development ...
